Lewis is a partner in Harneys’ Investment Funds Department. He advises on a variety of Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands funds matters, including advising United States, European and emerging markets managers on the establishment of new funds and the restructure of existing funds as well as advising managers and funds subject to, or affected by, litigation. He also advises on all aspects of Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands corporate and commercial law, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and corporate restructurings.

Lewis spends most of his time in North America and is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is admitted to practice Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands law and has also been issued a practitioner of foreign law permit by the Law Society of British Columbia in Canada. Lewis is the only person practising Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands law in the Pacific time zone.

Prior to joining Harneys in 2010, Lewis worked as counsel in the London office of O’Melveny & Myers LLP as part of their Investment Fund & Securitization Practice. In this role, Lewis acted for investment managers in the establishment of private equity, real estate, mezzanine and hedge funds. He has also assisted large institutional investors (including sovereign wealth funds, investment banks and pension plans) negotiate the terms of their investments in alternative investment funds. Whilst in London, Lewis also acted for private equity managers in the acquisition and disposition of portfolio investments.

Lewis is also a senior editor of The Offshore Funds Blog, a Harneys blog dedicated to explaining how offshore funds work and why investment managers use them. Lewis is recommended by IFLR 1000 and Legal 500.
